Samuel Baker

Samuel Baker was born on January 7, 1851 and died November 12, 1938. He married Alice Lucille Houck who was born in 1853 and died in 1936. Her father was a captain in the Confederate Army and seems to have been associated with the Confederate prison in Salisbury. Together, Samuel and Alice reared eight children.

When his father moved the family to Texas Samuel had recently married Alice. She became homesick after a few years in Texas and they returned to Rowan County. Samuel worked for his Uncle John at Baker's Mill before he acquired a farm in the Thiatyra community. His farm was between Mooresville and Salisbury on N.C. #150. He was active in Thiatyra Presbyterian Church and is buried in teh cemetery along with his wife.
