Robert H. Baker, Sr.

Robert Henry Baker, Sr. (Papa) was the fourth child born to Samuel and Alice Baker. He was born on April 24, 1883 and died June 29, 1972. While in his early 20's he went to work for Sourthern Railway as a telegrapher in Mooresville and in Newton. Working at the depot in Newton he met and married on December 8, 1908 Annie Alberta Corpening (Mama) who was born on July 26, 1888 and died April 30, 1976. They reared six children. Dick, their youngest, died in action during WWII on December 17, 1944. Rob worked for Southern Railway for over 50 years and retired in 1960 at age 75. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Mooresville.
