Introduction
This genealogy report contains what is presently known about the BAKER family. Some of the material is generic but I can find no reason to believe it is not accurate. Other information is specific and can be documented with wills, deeds, etc. Hopefully all of this information will provide a picutre of where our family originated, why we came to America, and perhaps even where we are going.
I hope everyone who reads this account will find it interesting. What began in earnest in 1986 and continues sporadically today can truly be described as an obsession. My search has taken me to the genealogy rooms of libraries in Mecklenburg, Rowan, Catawba, Moore, Montgomery, and Richmond Counties as well as the State Library and Archives in Raleigh and the genealogy section of the libraries at Rutgers University in New Jerset and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
I am comfortable with the information regarding our Pennsylvania descendants and would like someday to carry out further research in that State. Ultimately, research will have to be done utilizing records kept in Europe to obtain an accurate account of our family origin.
