| Bill on Rock |
June 3, 2006 |
When we reached the crest of Pine Mountain on the Appalachian Trail in Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, it got windy... and foggy.
Here, Bill poses on the top of one of the rock outcroppings.
Note: Later we passed by this rock outcropping in better weather. Paul Ely climbed up to this exact spot, held up his hands and yelled, "I'm Leonardo DiCaprio!" |

A blooming rhododendron above a thick section of other rhododendrums. This shot was taken off of Pine Mountain Trail. |
| The Resilience of Trees |
June 3, 2006 |
Often I marvel at the resilience of trees to grow on rocks. Pennsylvania is quite prone to that phenomenon.
On Pine Mountain Trail, we ran into a new variation. Here a smaller tree grew over a larger one! |

| Vicky on Wilburn Ridge |
June 3, 2006 |
Vicky poses on Wilburn Ridge (off of the aptly named Wilburn Ridge Trail). In the background, there is a small X above and to the right of Vicky. That is a cross section of multiple trails.
When we got down there, it was like Grand Central--- wild ponies, boyscouts, dogs, horses and riders all convened on the same spot. |

| Vicky Pets Pony |
June 3, 2006 |
Vicky pets one of the so-called wild ponies in Grayson Highlands. Vicky is sporting her new Appalachian Trail Conservancy hat, a Virginia Tech Frank Beamer's Ladies Football Clinic t-shirt, and the camelback Cory Herrala gave her as a Christmas gift a few years ago. |
| Baby Snake! |
June 3, 2006 |
We ran across this tiny, tiny baby snake on the Appalachian Trail in Grayson Highlands. The snake was perched up in a threatening position, trying to scare us away. It would have been more scary if say.... the snake was longer than a couple of inches.
The snake's intimidating posture produced nothing more than, "Aww, how cute!" |
