Tree Growing in Rocks April 29, 2006 The resilence of trees always amaze me. The Andy Layne Trail passes by a layered rock cliff. Despite the steep angle and the inhospital terrain, a number of trees still make the cliff their home.
Jimmie, Pine Tree and View April 29, 2006 Jimmie, a pine tree and a beautiful spring view on the Appalachian Trail, slightly north of Scorched Earth Gap
Thick Moss April 29, 2006 As we neared Chimney Rock, Balanced Rock and Hay Rock, we saw this thick moss growing in one of the crevaces.
Carvin's Cove View April 29, 2006 Between ten and eleven miles into our hike, we ran across this stunning view of Carvin's Cove. Contrast this shot with the Carvin's Cove View picture taken March of 2005 from the same spot. What a difference a few weeks makes with the trees!
Purple Flowers April 29, 2006 These purple flowers were frequently poking up along the side of the Appalachian Trail. I like how they look sort of... iris-like. I don't know what kind of flowers they are (if anyone can identify it, let me know)
